Madyson | Holiday | Part One

Madyson has features I could photograph all day…like her eyes, her lips, her smile and her energy. She is A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E and she has lots of personality to share. Madyson is what I like to call a “free-spirit” and she is amazing. (Just because she’s my niece doesn’t make my views distorted, she’s my niece by choice, not by blood.)

Here are some of my favorites from the first part of her holiday shoot. For those of you wondering, these are Madyson’s real eyes. I strongly believe that altering the color of a subject’s eyes is a “no-no”…unless you are shooting for a magazine or something that requires the use of Photoshop for exaggerated purposes. When I shoot any clients close-up, I try to position my subject(s) where the light will best reflect their eyes. Especially with little kids, I want their parents to have images that truly reflect their children as they are. Knowing how to use light to do this is something I have worked very hard on trying to master. It doesn’t always work because kids will be kids. If I ask them to stand in this particular spot, they may stand there or they may move somewhere else. I just try to have patience…in Madyson’s case, I have to literally chase her around to get her to stop. But the chase is worth it every time. Her images prove this to me.

Sometimes standing still like a statue is not fun for Madyson…LOL. (No kid was harmed during this photo shoot…ha.ha.)

I have to quickly get those standing still shots, because Madyson is a runner.

Madyson was running in circles around me. All the time I was politely asking her to stop…she was finding my pleas most entertaining. She was laughing so hard she had a watery tear in her eye.

With my promise of a cookie, Madyson was most well behaved…

For ONE second…

But seriously, how can I get mad at her twirling and spinning when she stops to give me these looks…and there is the tear of laughter again.

I love the still shots of Madyson, but she is a mover & a shaker…

So my action shots best show her personality…

Not sure why she felt the need to pick a piece of grass for my sister, but she insisted I take a photo of it and bring home for my sis.

As you can tell by the hair all over her head…Madyson had been twirling. I don’t think she liked me asking her to stop.

One of my favorites…

Madyson called this guy “Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer”…even though his nose is black. Of course, we had to get photos with Rudolph.

This is Madyson’s fairy wings. With these wings she can fly around the yard like a princess.

Although I didn’t manage to get this image completely in focus as she ran, I had to keep it. I love everything about Madyson in this photo. It is something about the “angelic” look she is giving me as she runs while I ask her to stop. LOL. Madyson makes me laugh and smile so hard when I photograph her. I love this kid.

More coming in Part II.
