Viejo Vallarta / Puerto Vallarta, Mexico : Heather + Tim : Day-After Session

I’m so excited to share some more photos from Heather and Tim’s day after session.  Their wedding was on the island of Las Caletas, so they wanted something different for their day-after photos.  We decided on shooting in Old Town Puerto Vallarta or what locals call Viejo Vallarta.  There were so many amazing places to take photographs.   Here are just a few of my favorites.

Heather . . . you are GORGEOUS!

At times the locals would stop to watch and offer their congratulations (or should I say “felicitaciones“). Heather was giggling at all the attention, but I understood the locals being captivated because she was quite stunning.

We started the shoot around the beautiful church, The Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Normally I don’t like shooting in crowded areas, but I really like the random people in the background.  It seemed to bring some of the Mexican culture into the images.

We just walked around the streets of Old Town, there were plenty of cool areas to take photos.

Love the kissy faces . . .

As we walked over the bridge, we found this really cool tree.

I asked them for a quick kiss and it ended up being pretty comical as Heather tried to keep her balance.  (see more photos below)

This was the most hilarious story of the day and I have to share it.  I am sure Heather and Tim won’t mind.  I was still laughing about it days later.  So the story goes like this : We were continuing our walk across the bridge and browsing some of the local artwork, when I spotted these two wooded skeletons.  I politely asked the local artist if he would allow us to take a few photos and he kindly responded “Si“.  As I looked at the area, I noticed the two skeletons were positioned rather close to each other.  I wanted to get a photo of Heather & Tim sitting with the skeletons, but I didn’t want to touch or move them out of respect for the artist. It looked like they had been hand carved out of some kind of wood and they appeared like they may be delicate. I glanced over at Heather and told her that if there wasn’t enough room that she could just sit on him.  The “him” I was referring to was Tim, I meant she could sit on Tim’s lap.  H-o-w-e-v-e-r, Heather thought I meant the skeleton and so she started looking around to see how she could sit on “the skeleton”.   I saw that she had this confused look on her face and when I realized what she was doing I just busted out laughing.  I yelled “NO…NO, not the skeleton!  I meant sit on Tim.” AND WE ALL LAUGHED so very, very hard.  It took a few minutes to recompose ourselves.  (I do love that she trusted me so much that she didn’t even question me.)  Ha ha….so hilarious.  Thank you Heather for bringing me to tears with all the laughter over this one.

We did manage to grab a quick photo.

We ended their session at the beach.  I LOVE this photo and the ones following are some of my favorites.

This was right after sunset.

A few last photos to end a fabulous shoot.   With all the walking, the heat, the sitting, the standing, the wind, the sand . . . these two look just as incredible as when we started.

STILL laughing and still having fun!  I love you guys and I loved every minute of photographing you two.

When I told them we were done and that they had absolutely ROCKED their photo shoot, this was Tim’s reaction . . .

And this was Heather’s reaction . . .

Heather and Tim (being the amazingly awesome people they are) wanted to buy me a Corona to celebrate.  After sunset we walked along the Malecon, which is a Seaside Boardwalk.  We talked about how much fun we had, random silly things (like the skeletons) and we laughed.  At this point, I just felt a peace rush over my body and I relaxed knowing my job was done.  We found a little local bar on the boardwalk and Tim grabbed us a few Corona’s.  As a photographer, I’m always looking through my lens, even when my camera is neatly tucked away.  When I saw this perfect end to our evening, I had to bring my camera out for just a couple last photos.  AND I am so happy I did.   What a great way to finish an afternoon after doing what “I love so passionately” with two people who are so passionately in love!  Life was . . . Life IS good!

(A side note for photographers : These images were taken after it was dark.  No flash.  I bumped my ISO to 3200 & shot at 1.2f with my Canon 85mm 1.2L lens. I did have them stand where I would have some illumination from a nearby street lamp.  These photos make me love my Canon 5D Mark II‘s capability to shoot at high ISO settings.)

This was the very last photo I took . . . LUV it!  You guys make my heart smile.

I snapped this image of the Corona’s for fun.  Notice the limes are kissing.  That was me being creative with this shot. (ha ha)
