When I got back from Key West last week I was very disappointed that I didn’t get any great sunset photos. When I lived there I would always get excited when the storms were brewing in the Gulf because I knew there would be some amazing sunsets. Breathtaking you might say. On days when there was bad weather, I would wait and then an hour or so before sunset, I’d drive or jump on my bike and take a ride to Fort Zachary. A perfect quite place to watch the sunsets, where only mostly the locals were hanging out. It was the closest thing to complete inner & outer peace that I’ve ever experienced. Well, as I expressed my disappointment to my Mom on the phone, she asked why I didn’t just post some of the photos I took when I lived there. I thought a minute and decided that was an excellent idea. I immediately grabbed my old photo albums and started pulling photos. I actually had to go through them about 10 times to choose which I liked best, because there were so many…too many to post them all. I narrowed down my choices to these below. I carefully placed each cherished photo on the scanner to copy onto my computer.

So, here are my final selections. I think these all were taken on different days, different times of the year and in a couple different locations. However, they were all taken with my Canon 35mm Film Camera, which I still have and will NEVER part with. These are all RAW scans…no photoshopping, no color adjustments, no adding contrast or tweaking. This is exactly how I picked them up from the photo place. I know the colors are insane, but they are real. I remember these vibrant colors of blue, orange, red, aqua, green and even some that appear to be purple. Just like in a crayon box, the skies were full of a variety of colors.

So, for this particular post we are going “old school”…back to the days of film…hope you like.

It was weird, sometimes the storms seems to hover just above the water, leaving the sky above open and free from any turmoil. Just simply beautiful…

I was actually sitting up on the jetty and just watching the storm…not a drop of rain ever hit me this day.

I remember this experience so clearly, it was a horrible storm and the sky looked like it was on fire. I was thinking to myself “No one will believe me if I tried to describe this…No one will believe me…” I am glad I got some photos this day…ha.ha.

As the seasons passed the sun would change the position it would set. I never liked it as much when it set behind the small islands. I loved it when it would fall against the water.

We did have quite a few storms offshore. Especially during hurricane season. But again, I never would get rained on. How cool.

I think a day like this probably started the old saying “A dark dreary grey day”. However, every day was amazing in Key West…even the dreary grey ones. Can you see the rain passing in between the two islands?

I did take shots when there were no storms. I just loved how beautiful the water always was.

This is actually a photo I took on my trip leaving the keys. It was a sad day for me, but I still see this palm tree when I drive back down to visit. It always stands as a reminder to me of many “good times” and “good friends”!
